Nader On Daily Show

So, I caught the Tuesday episode of Ralph Nader on The Daily Show. It was freaking weird. They had Steve Colbert as the host because Jon Stewart's wife is having a baby. Colbert was really funny. Nader kept hamming it up to the audience for cheap applause points, and it was annoying Colbert, so he interrupted and said, "Who wants Cool Ranch Doritos?!?" Applause ensued, and Colbert said, "We're even." Then Nader would continue and said something like, "Who wants more... uh... garlic on their fried eggs?!" The audience just didn't know how to respond, it was like a big collective "Huh?"

I swear, the guy is just broken in the head.

Jon Stewart is married??? Damn!

You're right...it was a really freaky show...Nader might be a very nice guy but he totally creeps me out.

I'm posting! Woo! First time!

I used to really like Nader -- I even voted for him in the last election. Now he's become the new Ross Perot (sp?). I haven't followed him much recently but it seems to me he's using all his brains for the wrong cause (and maybe some of those brains aren't working very well). You would think someone as intelligent as he is would know - to quote a southern man I knew - "That dog won't hunt." He needs to be working toward a different cause. He's wasting his time and money on a futile campaign.

Cheap applause by speaking about issues no one else dares speak about? ever heard the expression 'four legs good, two legs bad'? When you manage to pull your head out of your ass, you might realize that you are nothing but a spectator in the system of elite decision making and public ratification that is misleadingly called a 'democracy'.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, what did you think of the play?" >:}

Seriously, Ed, could you clarify which issues you're referring to? Basically I'm hoping we can hammer out exactly what Nader supporters think their candidate is bringing to this electoral shindig.

Well, you know he is intelligent, and yet you question his intellect when what he is doing isn't making sense to YOU. Great american reforms have been won due to the efforts of 3rd parties.

Abolition of slavery,
Women's right to vote,
Minimum wage.

In supporting Kerry, do not forget that Bush could never have gone ahead with his destructive policies without democratic, especially Kerry's, support. Do not forget that Kerry gave 18 standing ovations to Bush in his State of the Unionn address. Its the Democrats that handed Bush the blank cheque.

It's easy to blame Nader for Bush's victory. Democrats forget that 250,000 DEMOCRATS actually voted FOR BUSH during the 2000 elections. Why is that never mentioned?

Now are you picking on dramagirl or me? Either way, point that thing someplace else. Very poor form.

Why are you so defensive about the value of third parties? I've yet to see anyone challenge that here in this thread. That's a bar brawl someone else is starting, certainly not me. If I had any say in it, we'd be back to four or five equally competitive parties instead of the banana republic mechanisms in play now. I swear, it's like the PRI in Mexico nowadays.

As far as the "Nader as spoiler" straw man...well, as you can tell from my choice of words, I just don't buy it. The last I saw--check me on this--the numbers revealed the opposite, that Nader was pulling in voters who didn't show up for the last election.

My only concern on that score is the violation of campaign finance laws. Nader isn't responsible, but hasn't denounced it either. That seems out of character.

Unfortunately, drowning out their own platform with pitbull tactics has been very much in character with Nader and his supporters. Instead of getting to the issues, we have to bust out the pooper-scooper. I was genuinely interested too. Real shame.

Is this segment on video anywhere on the Internet? I've been trying to find it for like 20 minutes. I've checked the DAILY SHOW site and it's not there.
