Bush Exposes Our Al Q'aida Mole?

Juan Cole summarizes the headlines of the last few days.

Bush announces a terrorist plot on Sunday about financial institutions. People scream about it being politics in response. Bush later says that the plot is corroborated by a third party. Bush names third party. Third party turns out to be a double agent that we had placed inside of Al Q'aida, and Bush just blew his cover.

That's the theory, anyway. If it's true, it is huge. Huge.

Excuse me, but what 'cover'?
The cover of being perceived as a capable, magnaminious, visionary and strong world leader.

Outside of Fortress America, Bush has the cover of being a weasely, ignorant World-Leader pretend who happened to be there on dint of some nepotistic joke.

Actually I think he was referring to the mole that got outed, Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, who had been sharing his e-mail loop of al Qaida operatives with Pakistani intelligence. The Bush administration mentioned such a man was working inside the group, then his name got leaked to the press. This was supposed to be a state secret. And this keeps happening. Just when we can make this terrorist organization lose a much-needed limb, our own government gets in the way and makes us settle for a paper cut. What the hell?
