Daily Kos :: Science Sunday Special: Paralyzed woman walks again after stem cell therapy

Daily Kos :: Science Sunday Special: Paralyzed woman walks again after stem cell therapy:

Two stories of stem cells leading to miraculous medical advances.

A woman paralyzed for twenty years. She's injected with stem cells in her spinal column. Three weeks later, she is learning to walk again.

That's not sci-fi, it's happening now.

Fantastic and bittersweet. As I went over the account, I can't help remember all the neocon screaming heads deriding the claims of stem cell research miracle cures. I think as soon as we help everyone else who wants it, it might be a good idea to inject some stem cells into the neocortices of a few screaming heads.

As far as sci-fi goes, it's been a science fiction world ever since WWII. I'm reminded of JG Ballard: "The only truly alien planet is Earth."
